The folks at Race Across America (RAAM) brought the Texas Challenge to Marble Falls in 2012. This ultra marathon event offered both 400 and 200 mile races. In the Fall of 2017, Fred Boethling, owner of the race, contracted Holland Special Events to redesign the course for 2018.
The goal was to create a longer course (~500-530 miles) utilizing the existing start/finish line in Marble Falls. The new route had to stay true to the spirit and genesis of this event, which is to create an event that both introduces and helps prepare racers and support crews to the challenges they'll face at RAAM or Race Across the West (RAW). Such challenges/considerations include a variety or terrain, pavement textures, appropriate gaps between services (food, water, gas), dealing with various traffic patterns and navigation.
Holland Special Events redesigned portions of the course through Boerne, TX and created a ~130-mile extension that took the existing route further south, down around Medina Lake, into Castroville, up through Hondo, Utopia, and Tarpley in route back to intersecting the previous route just outside of Bandera.
This event is open for registration. We encourage anyone who gets excited upon hearing the word "epic," to sign up. Info and registration can be found here
